Starting off the season with a good jump on our peppers and tomatoes. We will be repotting into larger containers soon and will be transporting them to a member’s outdoor greenhouse in late April to get them acclimated to the outside ahead of the planting season.
Season is starting off early with an event in conjunction with Empty Bowls (https://emptybowls.com) next month at Swing Barrel Brewing in Moorhead!
Great season overall with some lessons learned. The end of the season saw Veggies for the Pantry haul in over 28k pounds of produce compared to just 10k from the previous year. The drop off site that we support netted 6,600 pounds alone with the help of our volunteer gardens and gardeners.
Next year is going to bring some fun changes including the addition of 2 more gardens and several more volunteers. Plans are in the works for a planting and garden prep event in the spring as well as a fundraiser in conjunction with https://emptybowls.com/

Engagement has been pretty awesome. The donations have helped our drop off location hit the highest donation rate per pound out of all other sites with 1218lbs. We also had the highest poundage 4 out of the 5 weeks.
Looking forward to the Labor Day drop off, with a lot more of our tomatoes coming in and the start of our squash we are hoping to obliterate last years totals.
Had some fun with aphids and mites as well as some overly wet conditions so far this year that have hampered the progress of the squash. That said, we should have a good crop coming in regardless even if its not what we were anticipating.
Peppers and Tomatoes are doing well and should be ready in the next week or so depending on the temps.

First season is off to a great start.
After the heat, cold, and rain, delayed some of the gardens getting in, we are in full swing with 6 gardens total. With 4 of the 6 being first year gardens there will be a lot of weeding and maintenance to be completed.
Severe weather events haven’t affected anyone so far and neither have the critters!
Looking forward to the rest of the summer to see what kind of yields and donations we end up with!
